KABUL, Afghanistan, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A roadside bomb Saturday killed a provincial governor in Afghanistan's Kabul province and three of his bodyguards, officials said.
CNN reported the Taliban took responsibility for the attack outside the home of Abdullah Wardak, the governor of Logar province, which is about 25 miles south of Kabul.
The roadside bomb exploded about 300 yards from Wardak's home, said Abdul Razaq, police chief of the Paghman district in Kabul province. Three of Wardak's bodyguards, including one driving the vehicle carrying Wardak, were killed.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the group's fighters detonated the bomb with a remote control device.
In condemning the attack, Afghan President Hamid Karzai described Wardak a "true son of Afghanistan," and called on authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
