McCain: Palin will break old-boy network

NEW YORK, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Sarah Palin will reform Washington as vice president as she has as Alaska's governor -- breaking the old-boy network, John McCain said Friday on "The View."

The Republican presidential candidate who appeared on the ABC daytime talk show with his wife Cindy, was asked by Barbara Walters what "specifically" his vice presidential nominee would reform.

"She will break the old-boy network and the special interests that control the agenda in Washington," he said, citing an end to earmark spending as an example.

When reminded that she accepted earmarks, McCain responded, "Not as governor."

Revisiting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's "lipstick on a pig" remark and his campaign's saying it disparaged Palin, McCain said, "He shouldn't have said that. (Senator Obama) chooses his words carefully."

Walters said Obama was talking about change and policy matters, and noted that McCain used the same analogy while campaigning.

"I was talking about (Sen. Hillary Clinton's) healthcare policy," he said.
