BEAVERTON, Ore., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- The lawyer for a 12-year-old girl kicked off a boy's basketball team in Beaverton, Ore., says her client will be allowed to rejoin her former team.

Portland lawyer Beth Creighton said after threatening to sue The Hoop regarding Jaime Nared's dismissal from the boy's team, the private basketball facility agreed to let Nared join a team of boys in her age group, The (Portland) Oregonian said Friday.

The facility hosts leagues in the area and had forced Nared off a boy's team using an infrequently used rule.

Her story soon became known nationwide thanks to discussions on television, radio and the Internet. Creighton said in addition to such bad press, the threat of a lawsuit was enough to get the site to reverse its decision.

"It was a slam-dunk case," Creighton told the Oregonian.
