Marco Aurelio Garcia, the foreign policy adviser for Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, said a coup may occur in the neighboring country as opposition protesters have been clashing with Bolivian troops, Mercopress said Friday.
Garcia said Thursday that the Brazilian government would oppose any attempts to create a substitute "constitutional government" in the South American country.
"Brazil will not recognize any attempt at a government that would substitute a constitutional government in Bolivia," Garcia said at a news conference.
The Brazilian government has been a staunch supporter of Bolivian President Evo Morales throughout the growing opposition in the country.
Mercopress said Brazil is concerned that by overthrowing Morales' government, opposition forces would not only destabilize Bolivia but the region as a whole.
