Woman sues over alleged police assault

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- A western Pennsylvania woman claims that after being assaulted during a barroom brawl she was assaulted by a police officer.

Patricia Turosik of Aliquippa, Pa., filed a federal lawsuit in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The borough of Monaca and Officer Ronald Hogue were named as defendants.

Turosik said that the brawl at the American Croatian Social Club in Monaca began with a dispute over where she had to stand while doing karaoke singing. In the lawsuit, she said that when police arrived she asked for medical treatment but Hogue told her to get into the back of a police car so she could be questioned.

After sitting for 20 minutes, Turosik decided to call 911 on her cell phone, the lawsuit said. Hogue allegedly demanded the phone and assaulted her when she refused to hand it over and threatened that she would be charged with assaulting a police officer.

In her complaint, Turosik said she was only charged when she gave the borough notice she was filing a lawsuit.
