KABUL, Afghanistan, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Two police officers died in an attack by two suicide bombers at the police headquarters in Kandahar in southern Afghanistan, officials said.

The Sunday incident wounded 29 other officers and eight civilians, The New York Times reported.

The two attackers managed to get into the complex, officials said. One of them even reached the second floor of the building, the report said.

A Taliban spokesman, who spoke by telephone, said the attacks were carried out by his group, the report said.
