Canadian woman dead of listeriosis

FREDERICTON, New Brunswick, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A Canadian woman has died of listeriosis, the first confirmed case of the food-borne illness in New Brunswick since a major food recall, officials said Monday.

The province's health department said the woman, who was in her 80s, had been a nursing home resident and died in a New Brunswick hospital, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Officials have directly tied 13 deaths to meat products from Maple Leaf Foods' Toronto facility. The company has recalled virtually all its products made there.

Officials haven't confirmed whether the woman's death is associated with the recall, the CBC said.
