Authorities said four people in all were arrested, including two employees of GS Nextation, for what they describe as misappropriation of national identification numbers and e-mail addresses of 11 million people, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.
Found on a CD and DVD were personal data from the chief of the National Police Agency and the speaker of the National Assembly, police said. Investigators say the refinery employees, a 28-year-old man and 30-year-old woman, had access to the information while working in its call center.
The man and two other male accomplices allegedly copied the information onto six DVDs, one of which was found in a garbage pile in Seoul's red light district, Yonhap said. One of the suspects tipped the media to the plot, hoping to increase the value of the data, police said.
