Tanya McGlade, 29, was convicted on a charge of unlicensed midwifery, while her 57-year-old mother-in-law, Linda McGlade, was convicted of assisting her, The Sarasota (Fla.) Herald-Tribune reported Sunday.
Following Friday's verdict, the Bradenton women now face up to five years in prison.
The two women, who the Herald-Tribune said are from a very religious family, were arrested in early 2005, five months after Tanya's 25-year-old sister-in-law, Mara, died of complications from child birth.
Testimony during their trial alleged Linda and Tanya both took part in the birthing process and while the baby was born healthy, the new mother's health quickly worsened.
The Herald-Tribune said while emergency medical personnel were eventually summoned, Mara died of internal bleeding, resulting in the two women being charged.
The newspaper said the women were initially convicted in 2006, but earned a new trial after an appellate court ruling this year. They are to be sentenced Oct. 27.
