Swoboda, who was shot twice in the head, died of complications from his injuries, KSDK.com reported. He had been staying in a hospice at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis County the past few days, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
In February, Charles Thornton, a city resident with a history of suing the government, killed three public officials and two police officers at a council meeting and was killed himself by police. Swoboda and a newspaper reporter were wounded.
Swoboda spent almost two months in a hospital and rehabilitation center after the shooting. In April, city residents honored him at his last council meeting as mayor.
Swoboda, 69, who served four terms on the Kirkwood City Council before becoming mayor in 2000, is survived by his wife Sue and two children.
