Teacher charged with 230 child porn counts

DUMFRIES, Va., Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A Montreal teacher charged with allegedly soliciting sex from a 13-year-old boy has been charged with 230 counts of child pornography, police said Friday.

Richard Doucet, 36, a teacher at the private Selwyn House School in the Montreal enclave of Westmount, could face more than 1,100 years in jail if convicted on all counts, police said.

He was arrested at a Fredericksburg, Va., motel in May after allegedly arranging to meet with Dumfries, Va., Detective John Chapman, who posed on the Internet as a 13-year-old boy.

Doucet, who allegedly chatted online with Chapman for several months, stopped in Fredericksburg on his way home from an Atlanta teachers conference.

The latest charges -- 115 charges of possession of child pornography and 115 of reproduction of child pornography -- stem from a compact disk police seized from Doucet's motel room, Chapman told the Canwest News Service. Each count represents one photo on the disk.

A court date for the charges will likely be set in two weeks, Chapman said. Doucet will either plead guilty or the case will go to trial, he said.

Doucet, who is married but has no children, is in custody in the Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford, Va.

He has been suspended with pay from Selwyn House, Canwest said.
