Reward doubled for Whitey Bulger

BOSTON, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Investigators marked James "Whitey" Bulger's 79th birthday by releasing age-enhanced photos and doubling a reward for information on the Boston crime boss.

The photographs are designed to show what Bulger, who has been missing for more than 10 years, might look like now, WCVB-TV in Boston reported. They were released Wednesday, Bulger's birthday, by the FBI, U.S. Attorney's Office and the state attorney general.

Bulger, head of the "Winter Hill Gang," is suspected of ordering 19 killings. He was an FBI informant and protected for years by agents.

In 1995, he and his girlfriend, Catherine Grieg, disappeared after an agent, later sentenced to prison, warned him he was about to be arrested. The last reported sighting of the couple was in London in 2002.

"Every time his photo is seen, another set of eyes are engaged to try and find him. I am confident that he will be captured," said FBI Special Agent-in-Charge Warren Bamford.

The FBI in a statement said the couple "are known to be fond of animals" and have sometimes made friends with dog owners.
