Redskins Head Coach Joe Gibbs resigns in Virginia

ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The Republican National Convention has added a speaker who might help draw some viewers away from Thursday night's NFL season opener, The Washington Post said.

Joe Gibbs, a member of the Football Hall of Fame who coached the Washington Redskins to three Super Bowl championships, has been added to the program for the final night of the convention in St. Paul, Minn.

The Redskins play the New York Giants at 8 p.m. EDT to kick off the 2008 NFL season. Gibbs is scheduled to speak during the 8 p.m. hour, the Post said, noting he hadn't been listed as a speaker on the original schedule released by the RNC Thursday.
