OGDEN, Utah, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Officials at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, say they are desperately trying to locate the owner of a class ring mailed to the school.

Margie Esquibel, Weber State associate director of alumni relations, said ever since the university received a package with the ring and a mysterious note in August, school officials have been trying to use sparse clues to find the owner, The Salt Lake Tribune said Thursday.

Esquibel said the package from an unidentified source in Germany identified the ring's owner as living in the Austin, Texas, ZIP code of 78710 and was a graduate of the Weber State class of 1969. The person who sent the letter said it was found in a German bathroom in the 1960s, the Tribune reported.

"It's like a good mystery story, or a dog who gets lost in the move and then makes its way back to its owner," she said to the Tribune. "You'd want that dog to tell a story. It's the same with this ring. How did it end up in Germany?"
