Report: Hezbollah targeting embassies

JERUSALEM, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Israeli intelligence experts say Hezbollah is targeting Israeli embassies and diplomats abroad in retaliation for the slaying of one of its top leaders.

Leaders of the Lebanese extremist Islamic group appear determined to avenge the assassination of Imad Mughniyah, who was killed in an explosion in Damascus in February, Haaretz reported Wednesday.

Israeli Intelligence sources say Hezbollah, which blames Israel's Mossad intelligence agency for Mughniyah's death, has been collecting information on Israeli targets in Canada, among other countries, Haaretz said.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said intelligence forces were able to thwart Hezbollah attacks in recent weeks, but Israelis traveling and living abroad, including business people, need to remain vigilant, Haaretz reported.

Barak provided no details of the thwarted attacks and an Israeli defense official said the time was not right to publicly elaborate.
