The ban was announced Friday by Rosselkhoznadzor, the Federal Veterinarian and Phytosanitary Control Service, RIA Novosti reported.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has insisted that the poultry ban has nothing to do with rising Russian-U.S. tensions over the Russian military presence in the Republic of Georgia.
Rosselkhoznadzor said the decision to ban poultry from the producers was a result of joint Russian-U.S. inspections in late July and early August.
"The inspection also showed that many companies had not taken measures to remove flaws revealed during previous checks," a Russian government statement said.
The regulator said 29 other U.S. poultry producers have been placed on a watch list and could be banned if they do not raise their sanitary standards, the report said.
