Calif. search for remains said productive

SAN MARINO, Calif., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- A search for human remains in an upscale Southern California town was productive, officials said.

The Boston Globe reported Monday officials concluded a two-day search Saturday of a home in San Marino, Calif., where Jonathan and Linda Sohus lived until they disappeared in 1985.

A Boston man most recently using the name Clark Rockefeller, 48, who rented a guest house from the couple, has emerged as a "person of interest" in their disappearance. Fingerprints have confirmed Rockefeller is a German national, Christian Karl.

About 40 investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office and other agencies combed the property, using ground-penetrating radar and cadaver-sniffing dogs, said sheriff's department spokesman Steve Whitmore.

"This 24-year-old investigation obviously and understandably has gotten a tremendous amount of publicity with a person of interest in this case, and the detectives want to be circumspect about everything that goes forward, trying to put this all together," Whitmore said.

Rockefeller is in a Boston jail facing charges of kidnapping his seven-year-old daughter in July.
