CHARLESTON, W.Va., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- West Virginia first lady Gayle Manchin was bruised Sunday when she was hit by a car while bicycling with her husband, Gov. Joe Manchin, a staff member said.
Gubernatorial spokeswoman Lara Ramsburg said the 11 a.m. accident occurred in front of an apartment building near the Capitol in Charleston.
"The car was pulling out of the apartment complex," Ramsburg told the Sunday Gazette-Mail. "She has a few bruises, but no broken bones."
State police troopers took the first lady to a hospital to be checked out, city police told the Charleston newspaper. The driver was not cited, city police Sgt. Shawn Williams said.
Ramsburg said the governor was relieved his wife's injuries weren't more serious.
"He's grateful -- and everybody involved is grateful -- that it's minor and that she just has some bruises," she said.
