BANGUL, Turkey, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Four Turkish soldiers were killed and three wounded in violent clashes with Kurdish separatists, military sources said Sunday.

The violence happened in Bangul governorate in eastern Turkey during an attack on strongholds of the Kurdish Labor Party, or PKK, reported KUNA, the Kuwaiti news agency.

Quoting local media sources, KUNA said Bangul Gov. Oglu Balkan Erfan claimed the clashes also resulted in the death of two PKK members. He said confrontations in the area have been escalating in recent weeks after Turkish soldiers were killed in bomb explosions near the country's northern border with Iraq.
