LONDON, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The son of Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi has called relatives of those killed in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing "very greedy" for seeking compensation.
Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi also said his country's confession of responsibility for the terrorist attack on Pan Am flight 103 over Scotland, in which 270 people on board died, was only to get international sanctions lifted, The Times of London reported Saturday.
"Yes, we wrote a letter to the (United Nations) Security Council saying we're responsible for the acts of our employees, our people, but it doesn't mean that we did it, in fact," he said.
Libya also agreed in 2003 to pay the family of each victim $10 million.
"I think they were trading with the blood of their sons and daughters," Gaddafi said of negotiations with families. "The negotiation with them, it was very terrible and very materialistic and was very greedy. They were asking for more money and more money and more money."
