Berkeley attorney sentenced to prison

CINCINNATI, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The last of the sentences has been handed down in the Berkeley Premium Nutraceuticals fraud case, with the firm's attorney prison-bound.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Saturday that in-house attorney Paul Kellogg, a long-time friend of Berkeley founder Steve Warshak, was convicted of money laundering and obstructing the proceedings of a federal agency.

The newspaper reported that Kellogg is the last of 11 Berkeley employees and associates sentenced to prison over wrongdoing at the herbal supplement company.

Authorities alleged the company netted $500 million through fraud, money laundering and by making false claims about its products. The company was known widely for its supplement Enzyte, marketed to men as a sexual aid.

"We successfully prosecuted the people involved in this scheme," said William Hunt, first assistant U.S. attorney."We went from the warehouse man to the corporate offices to the in-house counsel."

Warshak was sentenced to 25 years in prison this week.
