Truck hits sushi bar, kills two women

MAPLE RIDGE, British Columbia, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested a man whose truck smashed into a British Columbia sushi restaurant and killed two women while injuring six others.

Just after 6 p.m. Thursday, a truck went through a large front window into the dining area of the restaurant in Maple Ridge, which is about 30 miles east of Vancouver, and stopped when it hit an interior wall, the Vancouver Sun said.

Of the six people injured, three were listed in critical condition early Friday, the Globe and Mail said.

Maple Ridge Mayor Gordon Robson told the Sun he was told the truck was speeding in the parking lot before the crash and the unidentified 52-year-old driver "appeared not to be in control of himself."

At least two air ambulances, seven ground ambulances, 10 police cars and four fire vehicles responded to the crash, although there were delays caused by heavy rain and fog, the newspapers said.
