The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that officials are searching a home in San Marino, Calif., where Jonathan and Linda Sohus lived until they went missing in 1985. The case recently generated new interest after the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department named a Boston man, Clark Rockefeller, as a "person of interest" in the disappearance of the couple.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said authorities will perform a "photo scan" of the grounds. Cadaver-sniffing dogs were sent into the home Friday morning and experts will reportedly use ground-penetrating radar to search for remains.
Investigators last excavated the property in 1994 after new residents uncovered bones while digging a backyard swimming pool, the newspaper reported.
Rockefeller gained the attention of California authorities when he was arrested this month in Baltimore on charges of kidnapping his young daughter in Boston.
His attorney, Stephen Hrones, has said his client is the same man who used the name Christopher Chichester when he lived in the Sohus' guest house but Hrones insisted Rockefeller was not involved in their disappearance.
Fingerprints have confirmed that Rockefeller is a German national, Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, the FBI said this month.
