DNC gives shout-outs to Colorado, Denver

DENVER, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- The Democratic National Convention showed Colorado and Denver the love Thursday, passing resolutions honoring the Centennial State and the host city.

In addition, DNC vice chairpersons also recognized the first responders "from Colorado and around the country who made the convention a success," said Linda Chavez-Thompson, AFL-CIO executive vice president and a DNC vice chairwoman.

In reading the resolution honoring Colorado and Denver, DNC Vice Chairwoman Susan Turnbull noted that "active Democratic voters now outnumber Republicans by nearly three-to-one" to loud applause at Invesco Field at Mile High, where the closing day's business was being conducted.

Speaking after the resolutions were passed, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter Jr. said, "This evening, as we mark the end of the convention, we reaffirm the Western spirit as the American spirit."

"Only if we elect a bold new president in Barack Obama," Ritter said, "can we get America back on track and get the change we need in America."
