The Shanghai Cooperation Organization said the problems related to the military and political conflict should be reconciled despite Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's request this week for support of his country's actions in Georgia, the Financial Times said.
The organization said in its final declaration following a summit that it had "grave concern" regarding the situation taking place in both Georgia and South Ossetia.
"The SCO states express grave concern in connection with the recent tensions around the South Ossetian issue and urge the sides to solve existing problems peacefully, through dialogue, and to make efforts facilitating reconciliation and talks," the group said.
The group's comments come a day after China also called for "dialogue and consultation" regarding the international conflict, the Financial Times said.
"We understand the complex history and realities of South Ossetia and Abkhazia," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said Wednesday. "At the same time, reflecting China's consistent stance on such issues, we hope all the parties can appropriately resolve the issue through dialogue and consultation."
