ATLANTA, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Thursday marked the 45th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech, which galvanized the civil rights movement.

Residents of Atlanta planned to mark the occasion at the King Center and Ebenezer Baptist Church with tributes. The special tribute at the King National Historic Site Visitor Center will begin with a speech by King's nephew, Issac Newton Farris, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The tribute will lead into a weekend of events supported by the National Park Service dedicated to remembering King's dedication to the civil rights movement in the United States.

The Journal-Constitution said in addition to honoring King's 1963 speech, the tourism site is also recognizing the 40th anniversary of King's assassination with the exhibit "From Memphis to Atlanta: The Drum Major Returns Home."
