DENVER, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Federal agents in Colorado Tuesday investigated a possible plot to assassinate Barrack Obama at the Democratic convention in Denver.

Troy Eid, the U.S. attorney for Colorado, said in a written statement Monday night the three men arrested by Aurora police did not pose a credible threat to the presumptive presidential nominee; however, he could not comment further because the matter was under investigation.

A news conference was scheduled for late Tuesday afternoon to elaborate on the case.

Aurora police announced Monday they had arrested three men on weapons and drug charges. Among the items seized were a hunting rifle with a scope and walkie-talkies.

The Rocky Mountain News said there were indications the suspects said they intended to shoot Obama during his acceptance speech at Mile High Stadium Thursday.
