FAA program glitch hangs up flights

WASHINGTON, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- A glitch in the Federal Aviation Administration's flight system Tuesday caused delays at airports in some regions of the United States, the FAA said.

The FAA reported on its Web site that an outage of its flight plan processing system based in Atlanta kept flights on the ground at Chicago's Midway Airport for at least 60 minutes and at O'Hare International Airport for about 30 minutes, Crain's Business of Chicago reported.

The FAA's National Airspace Data Interchange Network in Atlanta handles flights along the East Coast. Because of the problems in Atlanta, the FAA's other processing system network in Salt Lake City is handling all flight plans, ABC News reported.
