DENVER, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The Congressional Black Caucus paid tribute Tuesday to Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Ohio, and other Democratic luminaries who died during the last year.

The video tribute to senators, representatives, speech writers, journalists and party officials was played on the second day of the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Tubbs Jones, who chaired the House Ethics Committee, died Aug. 20 after suffering a stroke.

In paying tribute to her, Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick of Michigan said Tubbs Jones "recognized Barack Obama can deliver the change we so badly need."

Rep. John Conyers of Michigan said Tubbs Jones supported Sen. Hillary Clinton's bid to be the party's presidential nominee. But when Obama captured enough delegates to claim the nomination, "she led us in standing rock-solid" in supporting him because "she knew the importance of making sure that every vote counts and that every vote is counted."
