Poll: Obama, McCain tied at 45 percent

PRINCETON, N.J., Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama and his Republican opponent John McCain are running neck-and-neck, a poll indicates.

The last Gallup Poll Daily tracking polling conducted before the beginning of the Democratic National Convention on Monday indicates Obama and McCain have 45 percent support among likely voters.

The results include results from two days of polling following Obama's pick of Delaware Sen. Joe Biden as his running mate.

Gallup said there was not a bounce in Obama's poll numbers following the much-anticipated announcement of his vice presidential nominee. McCain has not announced his VP pick.

For the Gallup Poll Daily tracking survey, Gallup interviews at least 1,000 U.S. adults nationwide each day during 2008. The general-election results are based on combined data from Aug. 22-24, 2008. The maximum margin of sampling error is plus or minus two percentage points.
