DENVER, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Rallying around presumptive U.S. presidential nominee Barack Obama is the point of the Democratic National Convention, Sen. Hillary Clinton said Monday.
Clinton and other speakers at a breakfast for the New York delegation to the convention in Denver indirectly referred to lingering disappointment about the end to her her bid to be the party standard-bearer, The Hill reported.
"It may take a while. We're not the fall-in-line party," Clinton said "But make no mistake, we are united."
She said the convention in Denver has a clear purpose, "to come out energized, excited and ready to elect Barack Obama" president in November, Clinton said. "I ask each and every one of you to work as hard for Barack and (running mate Sen.) Joe Biden (D-Del.) as you worked for me."
Clinton, U.S. senator from New York, did not say whether or when she'll release her delegates, the Washington publication said.
Speaking before Clinton, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., worked to rally the Empire State delegation around Obama, saying, "Despite our feelings that maybe it could have been different, we know we have a task at hand."
