DETROIT, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick won't be able to travel to Denver to attend this week's Democratic National Convention as a superdelegate for Barack Obama.

A bond hearing for Kilpatrick that had been scheduled Monday has been postponed until Thursday, The Detroit News reports.

Marcus Reese, a spokesman for the mayor's legal team, says the hearing on assault charges against Kilpatrick was put off "to ensure we have the appropriate time to prepare for what we hope to be a favorable ruling that will remove the extreme requirements of a tri-county travel restriction and a tether."

Reese says the mayor has never been a flight risk and the restrictions should be removed.

Kilpatrick is charged with shoving two investigators who were trying to serve a subpoena on his friend Bobby Ferguson.
