NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- FBI officials allege a former agent now living in New Orleans has been running a criminal enterprise that included killing and robbery.
Vo Duong Tran, 40, and an associate were being held without bond in a California jail on criminal charges outlined in a 32-page complaint, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported Sunday.
Included is a transcript that allegedly has Tran bragging about killing people involved in sports bookmaking who he said owed him money. Tran was especially upset with a California man.
"I don't want to collect him (sic). I want blood ... I have to make sure that it has to be done right because all my hits, they are clean," the transcript indicates he said.
The FBI kicked off an 18-month investigation of Tran in 2006 after learning of a plan to raid a California drug stash house. An informant facilitated tapings in which Tran allegedly talks about other previous robberies and murders, according to the federal complaint.
Tran's 2002 firing from the FBI came after federal prosecutors in Atlanta indicted him on charges, later dropped, that he fraudulently obtained firearms and silencers by falsely claiming the items were needed for his job.
