Israeli, Palestine, Jordan tourism talked

TEL AVIV, Italy, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Israel's tourism minister has sent letters to her female counterparts in Palestine and Jordan seeking joint efforts in improving the region's image.

Ruhama Avraham Balila sent the notes Wednesday to Jordanian Maha al-Khatib and Palestinian Dr. Khuloud Daibes as part of her new role within the Israeli Tourism Ministry, Ynet News reported Saturday.

In her letters, Balila noted that especially since for the first time women are heading the three tourism ministries, it could be an "excellent opportunity" to create a precedent for cooperation with the aim of realizing new potential for the region's tourism.

That led her to assert "that Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority can cooperate as neighbors and regional partners, thus promoting tourism in the area and assisting the region's economy and image as a tourist destination."

Balila concluded the letters by stating her hopes for a meeting between the three women to discuss opportunities.
