Kilpatrick stood mute at his Detroit arraignment as a not guilty plea was entered on charges he faces for an alleged July 24 altercation with investigators assigned to his perjury case, the Detroit News said.
Kilpatrick would have to plead guilty to the other felony as a part of the deal, the attorney general's office said at the court hearing. That would result in the mayor being booted from office and forfeiture of his law license.
Kilpatrick was charged by Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox with two felony counts of assaulting or obstructing a public officer. The charges carry a possible two-year prison term and a fine of up to $2,000.
