SEATLE, Wash., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Two Seattle teens have been rescued from what appeared to be a frozen grave when their snow cave collapsed, police say.
Neighbors Alec Corbett, 17, and Allesandro "Ollie" Gelmini, 14, spent much of Thursday trapped inside their cave by huge boulders of ice near Snoqualmie Pass, their chances slipping away by the minute, the Seattle Times said.
Luckily rescuers found them and managed to free the boys after about four hours of chipping away at the ice with hand tools and power saws.
The boys suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, as well as hypothermia, said Sgt. John
Urquhart, King County sheriff's spokesman.
The teens were among a group of climbers that included their mothers and two younger sisters who set out from Seattle for a hike along Denny Creek.
