LAS VEGAS, N.M., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- New Mexico State Police said that physical evidence allegedly supports allegations of physical and sexual assault in a high school hazing incident.

State Police Capt. Robert Shilling said an initial investigation into allegations made by nine Robertson High School football players found evidence to support the teenagers' claims they were beaten or sexually assaulted while at a training camp, KRQE-TV of Albuquerque, N.M., reported Wednesday.

"Based on our investigation we believe we have corroborated allegations at this point that do rise to the levels of the crimes that we talked about," Shilling said.

The alleged victims, all between the ages of 14 and 17, say several of their fellow teammates allegedly assaulted them as part of a hazing ritual during the recent overnight camp. Investigators say that in some cases, a broom handle was even used to assault the victims. No charges have been filed.
