COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The first gorilla to raise her babies at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has died, officials at the Ohio zoo said.

The Columbus Dispatch reported the zoo announced Jumoke's death Wednesday.

Jumoke, who was 18 years old, died Monday of complications of an early pregnancy, zoo spokesman Jeff Glorioso said.

She was the born at the Columbus zoo in 1989 and was the grandchild of Colo, the world's first captive-born gorilla.

Her two male offspring, Jontu and Muchana, live at the St. Louis Zoo, the newspaper reported.
