Mother makes appeal for missing 5-year-old

LYNN, Mass., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- A missing 5-year-old Massachusetts boy's mother has made a public appeal for his return.

Daisy Colon, 33, urged her son, Giovanni Gonzalez, to call 911 if possible. The child was last in the care of his father, who has been arrested and charged with child endangerment, The Boston Globe reported Wednesday.

"Giovanni, I miss you a lot, honey, " Colon said through reporters, urging her son to call police. "Don't be afraid to ask for help. OK, honey?"

Lynn police have been distributing fliers with photographs throughout the area in hopes that someone might recognize the child.

Colon said that under a custodial arrangement she left Giovanni at his father's house for the weekend but when she returned Sunday there was no response to her knocks.

The father, Ernesto L. Gonzalez Jr., 36, denied seeing the child over the weekend, the Globe said. But two neighbors reported seeing him playing with, then cursing in Spanish, at a young child kicking a ball.
