LANSING, Mich., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A woman crushed inside a store trash compactor while hiding from police died of her injuries Tuesday, police said.
Police were called to the Goodwill store Monday morning by an employee who said a woman was screaming and stuck inside the trash compactor, the Lansing (Mich.) State Journal reported.
Tyree Monique Tate, 26, was extracted from the machine and transported to a nearby hospital where she died, Eaton County Sheriff's Department officials said.
Authorities said the woman matched the description of one of two women suspected of shoplifting earlier Monday at a nearby TJ Maxx at the Lansing Mall store. The other woman, who was found hiding near the compactor, was arrested.
The women fled the TJ Maxx store after spraying a store security officer in the face with pepper spray, said mall manager Michael Cook.
