MIAMI, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- The center of Tropical Storm Fay was about 105 miles south of Naples, Fla., at 8 p.m. EDT Monday, and bearing down hard on the Sunshine State.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Fay was headed north at about 9 mph and its center was expected to be over Florida Tuesday. The center said isolated tornadoes were possible Monday night and Tuesday over southern and central Florida.
A hurricane warning was in effect for the southwestern coast of Florida from Flamingo to Anna Maria Island, and the center said "preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion."
Meanwhile, Amtrak said it has canceled train service in Florida in light of Fay's expected landfall.
Earlier, Fay drenched Cuba, and the storm is being blamed for swollen rivers that killed scores in Haiti.
