PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- At least 50 Haitians were killed Monday when their bus was swept away by a raging river swollen from Tropical Storm Fay, officials said.

However, more than two dozen others escaped before the bus was swamped by a river in southwestern Haiti, Haitian radio reported.

At least four others were killed in the neighboring Dominican Republic as Fay made its way across the Island of Hispanola toward Cuba.

The storm is expected to gain in strength as it approaches southern Florida.
