CHICAGO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- A robbery suspect was being questioned by investigators in a double homicide that included the slaying of a Chicago police officer.

Detective Robert Soto, 49, and Kathryn Romberg, 45, a supervisor with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, were both shot last week in what police believe was a robbery, the Chicago Tribune reported Saturday.

Police gang investigators and U.S. marshals picked up an unidentified man Saturday based on interviews in the area of the shooting and the description Soto gave of his attackers before he lost consciousness, said law enforcement sources.

Soto and Romberg reportedly had been sitting and talking in his sport-utility vehicle outside her condominium for more than an hour before the shooting.
