SACRAMENTO, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The city of Sacramento says the local home of U.S. Rep. Laura Richardson, D-Calif., is in disrepair and the politician could face related fines.
The Los Angeles Times said Friday that the Long Beach politician's home in Sacramento was previously foreclosed on, but now Richardson is facing up to $5,000-a-month fines as part of a public nuisance complaint.
The city's threat of such hefty fines come after Code Enforcement Department inspectors visited the home and allegedly found rotting garbage around the home.
Richardson purchased the three-bedroom home in 2006 after she elected to the Assembly, but soon built up nearly $9,000 in property taxes on the property.
A utility bill for the Sacramento home also caused a lien to be placed on the property and a bank eventually foreclosed on the site and sold it at auction.
Yet Washington Mutual filed a letter of recision regarding the home sale and later returned the property to the Democratic representative, the Times reported.
