HARARE, Zimbabwe, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and main opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai blame each other for the latest break in power-sharing talks.
Talks stalled after Mugabe and Tsvangirai could not agree on top leadership posts, The Nation (Nairobi, Kenya) reported Friday.
Also on Friday, Zimbabwean authorities seized passports of Tsvangirai and his traveling companions, preventing them from attending a regional summit in South Africa, a Movement for Democratic Change official said. The passports later were returned.
Tsvangirai said he was invited to attend the Southern African Development Community summit hosted by South African President Thabo Mbeki, who is mediating power-sharing talks between Mugabe and opposition leaders to help resolve Zimbabwe's political crisis.
It was reported earlier this week an agreement had been reached between Mugabe's ruling ZANU-PF party and an MDC faction headed by Arthur Mutambara. Mbeki later dismissed the report.
"How can they talk about a deal that excludes a party that has the most number of seats in parliament and won the only presidential election recognized by the world?" Abigail Dhliwayo, a stockbroker in Harare asked.
