McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, finished July with with about $21 million in the bank which is fueling his aggressive TV ad campaign during the Olympics and continuing through Labor Day, The Washington Post (NYSE:WPO) said.
Obama, D-Ill., has not released his July numbers, but will have to do so by Aug. 20, when he must report them to the Federal Election Commission.
McCain campaign manager Rick Davis estimated that McCain has spent $60 million on television ads so far. The Arizona senator has agreed to accept some $84 million in public financing for the general election.
After that, he will depend heavily on the Republican National Committee for help keeping pace with Obama.
