PRINCETON, N.J., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- A Gallup tracking poll Friday finds the two presumptive U.S. presidential nominees tied and more voters undecided or planning to vote for another candidate.
Support for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the likely Democratic candidate, has dropped slightly to 44 percent, while Sen. John McCain of Arizona, his Republican counterpart, is holding steady, also at 44 percent. So far in August, Obama has averaged 47 percent and McCain 43 percent.
Obama has recently been on vacation in Hawaii doing no active campaigning, which could be responsible for the drift away from him, Gallup said.
Gallup surveys at least 1,000 adults every day for its tracking polls. The one released Friday combines data from polling done Tuesday through Thursday of 2,690 registered voters and has a margin of error of 2 percent either way.
