Democrat John Edwards withdraws from the presidential race in New Orleans

RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- A former University of North Carolina think tank is not expecting John Edwards to return his post.

The former director of the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity resigned in 2006 to begin his second unsuccessful attempt at gaining the Democratic nomination for president. But Edwards is not now expected to return to UNC, the Raleigh News & Observer reported Wednesday.

His recent disclosure on ABC's "Nightline" that he had an extramarital affair had no impact on his relationship to the nonpartisan center, said Katie Bowler, assistant dean for communications for UNC's law school.

"He continues to support the ideals of the center, but there's no expectation that he will be returning," Bowler said.
