SACRAMENTO, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Supporters of a ballot measure banning same-sex marriage in California say they won't contest the wording of the proposal as it will appear on the ballot.
"We intend to leave the final outcome to the voters," said Jennifer Kerns, spokeswoman for the campaign to pass the amendment to the state constitution, which would limit marriage to heterosexual couples.
The San Francisco Chronicle said Tuesday that the sponsors of the measure had complained that the title and summary of the measure drafted by California Attorney General Jerry Brown's office were argumentative and encourage voters to oppose it.
In particular was the statement that passage of the measure would eliminate the right of homosexuals to marry, which was recently upheld by the California Supreme Court.
Two subsequent court challenges went nowhere, so the wording will stand, the Chronicle said.
