SALEM, Mass., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A planned lecture featuring John and Elizabeth Edwards at Salem State College in Massachusetts is still on for now, school officials.
Organizers of the Sept. 23 "Conversation with John and Elizabeth Edwards," however, are consulting with the corporate sponsors who paid Edwards' undisclosed speaking fee, the Boston Globe reported Monday.
The fate of the event was in doubt in the wake of John Edwards' admission he had an extra-marital affair in 2006 while his wife was in remission with cancer.
"We don't want to get into moral issues at this point," college spokesman Jim Glynn told the newspaper. "We are bringing them here to talk about the election and to talk about Elizabeth's battle with cancer, and that, to us, was more than enough to captivate an audience."
Glynn said the college was expecting a sellout of the tickets even before the Edwards scandal broke. But now, he said the college is considering switching the event from an 1,800-seat arena to a 3,600-seat hockey arena if "ticket sales go crazy," he told the Globe.
